Spring 2011 - newest update at the top.

1st of April:
Today I have handed in the essay. This ends this log...

31st of Mars:
Today the essay became finished.

20th of Mars:
Today I have used sandpaper on the whole body and tried to improve it and remove smaller damages... I have also oiled the knobs.

19th of Mars:
Today the intonation for the E-strings have been fixed. I got some help with this, the height of the strings have been lowered further and the string mounts have been moved further back... I have also routed the pickup cover further down into the body...

18th of Mars:
The last week I have continued with the intonation and even the A-string have improved even more. I lowered the string slots and it is now much easier and more comfortable to play on it. The E-strings are far from perfect, but at least they are not forgetting the F note anymore. (<-- was fixed when I lowered the nut slots). I will continue to work on the E-strings and I will see if I can get some help with them.

14th of Mars:
Today I have fixed the intonation for the A-string and it is now perfect. Oddly enough I seem to have trouble with the two E-strings...

9th of Mars:
Today I received the extra fret wire, afterwards I continued with the whole procedure of filing them and I am now finished. The next step is to improve all the details before oiling it.

8th of Mars:
Today I have begun to file the frets. (The first 15 are finished).

7th of Mars:
Today I have worked with the fretting, I borrowed the saw again and I have also ordered extra fret wire...

6th of Mars:
I have begun the fretting procedure, but I will have to borrow the saw again to increase the depth of the fret slots...

5th of Mars:
Today I have adjusted the dimension of the nut.

4th of Mars:
Today I have cut out the nut and glued it onto the neck.

27th of February:
I have now found the material for the nut.

22nd of February:
I have scrapped my old plans for the nut design and decided what I want to do instead. I will place a regular nut made out of aluminum on top of the lower nut part...

19th of February:
Today I have adjusted the size of the lower nut part. I have also made a test upper part, this made me realize that another design would be better...

18th of February:
Today I have attached the lower part of the nut.

13th of February:
Today I have oiled the inlays.

11th of February:
Today I have worked with the inlays.

10th of February:
Today I have completed the sanding of the neck.

9th of February:
Today I have worked with the neck, the fretboard now got the same dimensions.

5th of February:
Today I have glued the fretboard onto the neck using the technique described below. The result was a success.

3rd of February:
Today I have though of another strategy that might work when gluing the fretboard. I will fasten a woodblock on the body that is straight compared to the bridge, and then I will use this to know the exact location for the fretboard.

2nd of February:
Today I tried to glue the fretboard to the neck, but I aborted since I was not sure that it would become straight. I have to find another method to get it glued correctly.

28th of January:
Today I have worked with the fretboard, the first slot has been made and I have a clear idea on how I want the nut to be like.

24th of January:
Today I have succeeded in printing out the fretboard distances, I will try to borrow the saw over the weekend...

23rd of January:
Today I have worked with the body, I have fixed the damaged part of the pickguard and attach a shoulder-strap mount at the bottom of the body. I have also looked at the nameplate, and it is finished now.

22nd of January:
Today I have worked with the pickguard and the placement of the pickup, it has now been lowered and I have found better screws for the fastening of it. Now all I have left with the body is oiling it (Apart from the fact that I have got to find a new name plate), but I still got much work with the neck and the fretboard.

I have also tested to string the instrument up, and everything went fine, it really feels like a real instrument now.

21st of January:
Today I have worked with the pickguard, I have drilled holes for the screws and I have also attached it with four screws. (They have also been lowered into the pickguard). I have also adjusted the size of the pickguard a bit and I have also continued to look at the location for the pickup.

20th of January:
Today I have worked with the pickguard and with the cavity cover. The screws on the cavity cover have been lowered, on the pickguard I have finished routing it. I have also started to look at the location of the fastening screws for it and the location of the pickup. Other than this I have also routed the cable channel.

19th of January:
Today I have worked with the cover and the pickguard, I have drilled the hole in the cavity cover and attached it with screws to the body. The pickguard have been grinded so that it fits and I have started to route the location for the neck... I did not finish this as I had to glue it, a bit of it loosened...

18th of January:
Today I have been in the woodwork and the fretboard have been planed yet again, it now have the right thickness. (I have also cut it to the right length.) I have also made the cavity cover, on top of this I am almost finished with the pickguard, I only have to use grinding paper. I have also found a saw that will work with the frets.

16th of January:
Today I have looked a bit on the nut, I have fixed the right angle. I have also made a backup plan for the pickguard, this plan involves making it out of oak and routing the edge away, so that I only have to concentrate on a single line...

10th of January:
The ebony will be planed next Tuesday, week 3.

8th of January:
Today I have worked with the knobs, I had to make two new and I have also repaired two of the pots, which broke down when fitting the knobs on them.

7th of January:
Today I have received the four pots, and I have routed the cavity deeper so that the potentiometers fit perfectly.

6th of January:
Today I have looked a bit at the electronics, the pots have still not arrived... I have decided to go with the jazz-bass cover from the small pickups. Inside I will wire one or two pickups depending on the result...

4th of January:
Today I have used a finer sand paper on both the neck and the body, I have also drilled the hole to the cabinet. Other than this I have placed an order on four potentiometers, I have also started to route the template for the pickguard.

2nd of January:
Today I have continued working with the neck, the size of it is perfect now.

1st of January:
Today I have updated the homepage a bit, I have also though some more about the nut and tested to oil two extra knobs.
